In reality, the most beautiful photographs come from outfits that complement each other rather than match perfectly.
Think of your outfits as a colour palette instead of a uniform. When everyone's clothing works together while still reflecting their individual style, your photographs feel more natural, timeless and effortless.
Choose a Colour Palette
Start by choosing two or three colours that work well together, then build everyone's outfits around those tones.
Some beautiful combinations include:

Your session should still reflect your personalities.
If someone always wears dresses, let them wear a dress. If another family member lives in jeans and boots, that's perfectly okay too. The goal isn't to create identical outfits—it's to create a collection that feels cohesive while still feeling like your family.
Dress for the Location
Soft neutrals work beautifully at the beach, earthy tones complement parks and gardens, while darker colours and tailored outfits often suit Melbourne's architecture and city streets.
Think about what you'll be doing during your session. If we're wandering along the beach, bare feet or comfortable sandals will be much more practical than high heels. If we're exploring Melbourne's streets, choose shoes you're happy to walk in. And for park sessions, avoid anything you're worried about getting a little dirty.
Don't Overthink It
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable.
If you're constantly adjusting your clothes or wearing something that doesn't feel like you, it often shows in the photographs. Choose outfits that you can move, laugh, cuddle and play in with confidence.
The best photographs aren't created by dressing everyone exactly the same.
